Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy that is generated from the Earth’s core in different forms but mainly from hydrothermal resources. Unlike wind and solar renewable resources, geothermal energy has the unique advantage of being always available.
A geothermal reservoir is a volume of rock and fluids with an elevated temperature. Wells are drilled into the underground reservoir to make use of the energy source. For an exact assessment of the geothermal play, the combination of high-resolution seismic data processing, high-end imaging and interpretation are indispensable. An exact model helps to calculate the thermal resource and is necessary for an accurate well bore direction and placement. TEEC’s high end processing applications help identify subsurface rocks, formation thickness, reservoir properties and model fault network to be successful and reduce risks when assessing the viability of geothermal reservoir.
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is an important technology that was developed to reduce the impact of CO2 emissions. It is viewed as significant development in the global initiative to reach net zero emissions to combat climate change and further environmental concerns. CO2 emission from heavy industrial processes, such as power generation from coal and natural gas, is captured and removed from the atmosphere through gas separations processes. After compression and transportation, the CO2 is stored within a suitable subsurface rock formation. To identify suitable rock formation including storage capacity, an effective and detailed understanding of injection and carbon storage capabilities of the subsurface is necessary. TEECs high end processing toolbox and subsurface imaging experience will help to gain a more detailed understanding of the reservoir, porosity, permeability and fracture network.
Wind Energy
Energy generated from wind is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources in current times. The energy is acquired through the use of wind turbines that can be quite large (70m tall with 50m long blades). Due to the size, often the energy is generated in a different area than it is needed, usually in numerous acres of unused land or offshore. Offshore wind farms are quite effective as they provide the necessary space and constant source of wind but they need energy tracks to connect to the mainland. For safety, shipping cables need to be buried within 1,5 m to 5m depth. Specialized seismic acquisition and processing is used to check the depth under the seafloor, which TEEC aims to provide with high end processing applications.
